My local tire shop owner recommended me to replace 225/60 16 to 215/65 16 since it gives better mileage and better speed ratio. The owner is a reliable guy who I have known him more than 8 years.

But when I checked the diameter of the tire has been increased by 9.66mm. Does this bigger diameter and narrower dimension affect any safety or mechanical parts in the future?

Now less road noise and smooth ride but I am concerning any safety issue on the family car.

FYI, the diameter increase ration is about 1.5%.

down grade입니다. tread폭도 좁아지고 편평비(series)도 60시리즈 에서 65시리즈로 가는 거니까 역시 down grade입니다. 또 외경이 커져서 속도계가 부정확해 집니다. 가능하면 같은 size로 바꾸세요.

일단 트레드 폭이 좁아지면 연비와 승차감은 좀더 좋아집니다. (같은 패턴일경우)
그리고 그정도 외경이 커진건 뭐… 괜찮은수준으로 보입니다.

단점은 브레이킹성능이 아주 약간 떨어질수 있구요.. 뽀대가 좀 안나죠 ^^
이정도 차이로는 뽀대가 안난다 라고까지 말할순 없겠지만요.

일반적으로 기본보다 더 큰걸 넣는경우는 많은데, 작은걸 넣는경우는 흔하진 않죠.
제 경우는 215/65/17 에서 휠도 바꾸면서 255/55/18로 바꿨습니다.
이쁘긴 한데, 연비가 좀 떨어지더군요.
