SCOPE:
Perform functions to design and implement new or upgraded electronic systems related to the 3D laser scanning measurement system, where only general methods are available requiring considerable initiative and ingenuity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Perform design of electronics for laser based systems using experience in microwave, RF, analog and digital hardware electronics.
2. Perform experiments, collect data and analyze data for laser based measurement systems.
3. Work in a laboratory with lasers, amplifiers, instrumentation, diagnostics and optical components to evaluate laser performance and address performance improvements.
4. Perform electronic and electrical component, circuit and board design for both digital and analog systems.
5. Design, code and debug firmware in C, and/or Matlab, for control of 3D laser scanning products and/or test code for such systems.
6. Assemble, test and diagnose systems and circuit boards.
7. Maintain documentation while tracking the progress of the assigned project. Evaluate the project as it progresses ensuring its integrity with the initial purpose.
8. Communicate with vendors regarding component parts and production standards.
9. Work with the compliance agency to gain acceptance. Sustain the product through ECN and engineering help.
10. Provide technical advice within field of expertise to other organization personnel as may be requested. Evaluate current processes and procedures, recommending and implementing changes where indicated and approved.
11. Assist in evaluating Contract Manufacturers and other outside vendors prior to issuance of production order, ensuring their technology, capacity and quality control meet the standards of the organization.
12. Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.Requirements
HIRING PREFERENCES:· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required, plus 5-7 years’ experience
· At least 4 years of experience in RF electronics and analog circuits for lasers
· Experience with PCB design tools. OrCAD preferred
· Experience with digital circuit design.
· Proficient in assembly, testing and validation of designs
· Experience with C/C++ or Matlab for programmingTOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
VOM, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Function Generator, Frequency Counter and TDR, plus various mathematical, graphic, electronic design and database software programs, computer and peripherals, and standard office equipment.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Some lightweight lifting, and occasional lifting of average to heavy weight materials of over 60 lbs. Occasional pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing and upper body and arm rotation. Some bending, stooping and standing. Continuous sitting. Occasional use of hazardous chemicals.
