Hello,
Recently, job mkt of financial industry has been very good and it looks like it will be so for some time.
Sounds like you are going to graduate from undergrad program… As you know, there are so many financial companies so I can’t really define a typical career / opportunity… but in case of large Wall Street firms, they typically offer “analyst” program for undergrads, where you may (or may not) have a chance to be rotated around different groups for some time period and get assigned to a specific business unit.
In many cases, these analyst level employees end up going for an advanced degree like MBA, simply because it’s difficult to be promoted to “associate” level otherwise. Of course, there are always exceptional people who make it to the associate position, but just like many mgmt counsulting firms, it is the sign that you need to leave for the career advancement if you don’t get promoted within 2-4 years — so many analysts leave for more study at that point.
And, yeah, obviously school/program’s reputation matters much. Does not mean that you can’t get a decent job with the degree from 2nd tier schools, though… it’s just a little more difficult as you can imagine…
Financial indsutry in Korea… definitely it is getting better, I guess. But, I don’t want to go back and work in Seoul just yet.
Hope this helps!
>Hi,
>I have some questions about finance field…
>how’s finance fieldl? such as job availability and career perspective? Yes, I know it’s too vague, but what can a student expect after the graduation?
>secondly, do I have to go to B-school? and if so, does it matter which school I go? Obvisouly it matters, but what about the average position?
>and lastly, what do you think the finance field for Korean?
>thanks
