UC Berkeley:
– A big public university on a large campus, large student population, many class offerings (but hard to register for wanted classes)
– One of the leading research universities with diverse professional opportunities (science, engineering, software, healthcare, humanities…)
– San Francisco as a backdrop with its own pros (Silicon Valley, nice weather…) and cons (high costs, traffic…)
– Lawrence Berkley National Lab on campus (U.S. government lab with internship opportunities)
Johns Hopkins:
– A well-funded (Bloomberg…) private university
– A small, pretty campus with a mid-size student population
– Strong reputation in healthcare related research and education (But the recent NIH budget cut may hurt their budget)
– Many undergraduates are “pre-meds” ( meaning tough competition for better grades, can be stressful)
– Home of The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) for internships
– The City of Baltimore surrounding the campus has some security issues
