    Field Engineer of Civil and Architectural Work

    Position Description:

    The Field Engineer position will be assigned to the architectural team and will assist in obtaining, evaluating and coordinating all information needed to construct the project in accordance with the contract documents and to assure that the work meets all safety standards, is within schedule requirements, and is constructed to the highest level of quality possible. The Field Engineer in the performance of its duties shall be responsible for the protection and promotion of the interest of all matters.

    Reports to: Architectural Assistant Manager / Team Manager

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    [Field Operation Supervising Role]
    • Assist in the implementation of the site safety program as required and ensure subcontractor compliance with safety standards and all applicable safety codes and regulations.
    • Assist in the maintenance of contract documents and electronic web based documents for field operations.
    • Assist in the preparation of daily construction reports.
    • Review all work as it is being placed to be sure it is accurate within accepted tolerances.
    • Review contract drawings, specifications and shop drawings to ensure proper coordination and installation.
    • Assist in the preparation of project as built.
    • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

    [Project Engineering Role – with 1 or 2 years of experience]
    • Acting as liaison with architects, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, inspectors, other staff and owner’s representatives in resolving issues related to plans and specifications.
    • Overseeing and making decisions related to contract drawings and subcontract information. Ensuring that all drawings and specifications properly relate to the estimate.
    • Managing the project budget.
    • Managing submittals and shop drawings. Assessing conformance to contract specifications. Resolving any conflicts in interpretation.
    • Negotiating change orders. Managing information on changes in the work; preparing an independent analysis, as required; obtaining and checking estimates for the changes from subcontractor; obtaining approval of the architect and owner; and resolving any conflicts.
    • Overseeing the close-out process. Preparing final records for the project such as RFI’s, close-out records, warranties, as-builts, operation and maintenance manuals, attic stock, and spare parts, and evaluating information to insure compliance with contract documents.
    • Supervising Assistant Engineers, Engineering Assistants, Plan Clerks and Interns, including providing input on performance appraisals.
    • Preparing scope of work documents for trades.
    • Developing reports such as General Conditions Items, labor, safety, change order logs and quality control.
    • Scheduling and managing subcontractor trade coordination meetings, preconstruction meetings and submittal review meetings.

    [Reporting Work]
    • Daily Field Observation: Every morning around 7 am
    o Assigned sub-contractors and packages: TBM, Initial work status check
    o Co-assigned sub-contractors and packages: initial work status check
    o Hotwork, Rigging work, or other critical work field observation
    • Daily Report
    o Arch. Sub-contractors number of labor and work description / share to project team
    o Check Weekend work head-up and share
    o Contractor’s permit review and get approval from Project Team
    • Weekly Report
    o 4 – Architectural Photo by Tuesday
    o Staging Area, Scaffolding Area, Work Location, Road Closure, IWT work area update weekly

    Qualifications

    Four-year college degree with formal engineering or architectural training or equivalent building construction experience and summer internship/co-op experience in construction highly desirable. Must have good interpersonal and teamwork skills, desire to learn, ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing, proficient with computer applications as required to perform responsibilities. A basic understanding scheduling programs preferred.
