If you meant Certified Financial Planner by CFP… CFP and FRM are very different. CFP is a kind of professional certificate. It is not a must, but you better have it if you are a financial planner, a broker, or a financial advisor. However, it is not as prestigious as CFA which is the most respected certificate in financial industry.

FRM is also a certificate, but it does not belong to any special type of profession. It is about quantitative risk management which can be applied to functions like risk mgmt, asset mgmt, trading… But, FRM is not as prestigious as CFA either.

In fact, any professional certificate except CFA is not very well respected. Your educational/professional experience matters more. In any case, getting CFP or any other financial planning related certificate may be a good idea if you want to have a career in financial planning (which is not a very well respected job in financial industry either… ^^; ).
